Dear Friends of Walleyes for Warriors,
We are sorry to inform you this year’s event is CANCELLED due to the COVID-19 crises. We will not be having a smaller, less crowed event later in the year. We decided we could not hold this event without possibly harming the health and safety of our veterans, captains and volunteers.
Walleyes for Warriors will be back in 2021! Thank you for your understanding and future support.
2019 WALLEYES FOR WARRIORS EVENT SUMMARY
Welcome to the TENTH ANNIVERSARY of Walleyes for Warriors! We thank our veterans for all they have done for our country with a special day of recreational fishing on Saginaw Bay.
It will soon be time for this year’s Walleyes for Warriors veteran fishing event. This will be our third year at Linwood Beach Marina, 135 S. Linwood Beach Road, Linwood, Michigan. This year’s dates are June 13th and 14th.
If you have attended in the past, you know how meaningful this event is to our veterans. We honor them for their service to our country by offering this free event for them.
Last year we had 120 boat captains and almost 221 veterans who participated. We caught 1,683 walleyes. We were pleased to have three World War II veterans who fished. Their ages were 91, 92 and 95.
We are grateful to Linwood Beach Marina for hosting our event. Our Veterans are able to spend more time fishing due to this location.
Once again, volunteers cleaned the walleyes and fillets were given to all veterans in souvenir cooler bags.
Several prizes were raffled off. The longest walleye was 26¾ inches. Our veterans were served both a lunch on Saturday, box lunch while fishing and a dinner on Sunday.
Walleyes for Warriors has a specific mission; to provide a weekend event of fishing and fellowship to our veterans, to thank them for their service and say “Welcome Home”. Saginaw Bay is an outstanding walleye fishery. We want veterans to experience this.
Bay City Elks Lodge 88 coordinates and sponsors the event. The Elks are working diligently to ensure the legacy Nels founded lives on.
THANK YOU for your involvement. We hope to hear from you soon and look forward to seeing you on June 13th and 14th. GOD BLESS AMERICA, and, as we say in the Elks, so long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will NEVER forget them.
Walleyes for Warriors is presented by Bay City Elks Lodge No. 88. Our IRS Tax Exempt 501(c)(3) ID Number is 31954.
